INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 10, 2022) – Several closures are needed in the Clear Path work zone, beginning tonight, to prepare for upcoming traffic changes. Drivers need to be prepared, use caution and allow themselves extra time.
Work tonight and Thursday night will restrict southbound I-69 to one lane from 96th Street to I-465 and close the 82nd Street on-ramp to southbound I-69 both nights. The ramp is expected to open for use during the day on Thursday and Friday. However, crews will need to close the ramp again on Friday night, Aug. 12 and it’s not expected to reopen until Wednesday morning, Aug. 17.
Southbound I-69 access to Binford Boulevard is also expected to close Thursday night, as well as the left lane of westbound I-465 between I-69/Binford Boulevard and Keystone Avenue.
The work being done during the closures will help prepare for a significant traffic shift next week. The work includes overhead sign and pavement marking changes to assist drivers with next week’s changes.
Express Lane
A temporary express lane is expected to open this weekend to help keep traffic flowing on westbound I-465 during construction. The left lane will shift across the center median near I-69/Binford Boulevard and use one of the old eastbound lanes separated by concrete barrier. Traffic entering the express lane should slow down and stay alert as drivers adjust to the traffic split.
Express lane traffic will not be able to exit at Allisonville Road. Traffic entering westbound I-465 from southbound I-69 and Allisonville Road will not have access to the express lane. The express lane will be in use the rest of the year.
Weekend Restrictions
Restriping and shifting I-465 will reduce westbound traffic to one lane this weekend between I-69/Binford Boulevard and Keystone Avenue. Ramp traffic will also be restricted entering westbound I-465 from southbound I-69 and exiting onto Allisonville Road and Keystone Avenue. The short-term westbound I-465 restrictions are expected to be in place Friday night through Sunday.
