The project will transform one of the state’s busiest interchanges with efficient, high-capacity ramps for I-465 and I-69 that reduce traffic weaving and merging.

I-465 Over 75th Street

I-465 Interchange

I-69 Bridges Over 82nd Street

More than 80% of the project is complete with construction expected to wrap up in late 2026.

Five of the 6 new bridges at 82nd Street are complete.

Seven of the 8 new bridges in the I-69/I-465 interchange are complete.

A Clear Path for Improvement

Clear Path 465 will improve safety and traffic flow on I-465 and I-69 on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

The project will support the future national I-69 corridor, which is being completed in Indiana. I-69 is an important commuting corridor that connects Indianapolis with Fishers, Noblesville, Pendleton, Anderson and other communities.

I-465 MAINLINE

The first construction phase will rebuild and add lanes to 4.5 miles of I-465 between Fall Creek and the White River. INDOT awarded the first construction contract to a tri-venture of E&B Paving, Rieth-Riley Construction and Gradex in December 2021.

I-465 and I-69 Interchange

The second and final construction phase will focus on nearly two miles of I-69 and Binford Boulevard, including the 82nd Street and I-465 interchanges.

In early 2023, INDOT awarded the second construction contract to a tri-venture of E&B Paving, Rieth-Riley Construction and Gradex. Construction started for this phase of the project in early 2023.

Before: Westbound I-465 bridge above Binford Boulevard under construction
After: New westbound I-465 bridge

Northbound/westbound I-465 bridges

Status: Complete and open to traffic

  • Drivers traveling on westbound I-465 from the main interchange past White River are traveling on new pavement as additional travel lanes are constructed.

Eastbound/southbound I-465 bridges

Status: Closed and under construction

  • Two new bridges are under construction in the main interchange that will carry drivers traveling on eastbound/southbound I-465. These bridges are expected to open to traffic by mid 2026.
  • Traffic is currently utilizing additional lanes on the two new northbound/westbound I-465 bridges to build the new eastbound/southbound bridges.

I-69 Bridges over 82nd Street

Status: Five of the 6 new bridges at 82nd Street are complete and open to traffic. Some bridges are open with limited access.

Open with limited access:

  • Northbound I-69 bridge to 82nd Street ramp
    • Only accessible when traveling from northbound I-465 to northbound I-69.
  • Southbound I-69 bridge from 82nd Street ramp

    • Full access to southbound I-465
    • No access to westbound I-465
    • No access to Binford Boulevard

Drivers are expected to regain access to westbound I-465 and Binford Boulevard from 82nd Street/southbound I-69 in late 2026.

Before: Southbound I-69 and 82nd Street ramps
After: Southbound I-69 and 82nd Street ramps

Northbound I-69 and 82nd Street Ramps

Status: Complete and open to traffic with limited access

Fully open

  • 82nd Street ramp to northbound I-69

Open with limited access

  • Northbound I-69 ramp to 82nd Street
    • This ramp is only open to traffic traveling from northbound I-465 to northbound I-69.
    • Drivers are expected to gain access from this ramp to westbound I-465 and southbound Binford Boulevard in fall 2026.

Allisonville Road Ramp to Eastbound I-465

Status: Closed

  • The Allisonville road ramp to eastbound I-465 is currently closed. This closure gives crews space to work on building new lanes on I-465 and rebuild this ramp. It’s expected to reopen in summer 2026.
  • The ramp will remain closed until eastbound I-465 lanes are complete in spring 2026.
  • Eastbound I-465 between the White River bridge and the I-69/I-465 interchange will stay in its current configuration while crews complete one remaining bridge in the I-69/I-465 interchange.

56th Street ramp to northbound I-465

Status: Closed

  • The 56th Street ramp to northbound I-465 remains closed to allow drivers to safely travel the Clear Path 465 corridor during construction. Currently, southbound I-465 traffic is temporarily traveling on new pavement that will eventually be northbound I-465 lanes. Once southbound I-465 traffic has moved from the current temporary traffic pattern, this ramp will be reopened. This ramp is expected to reopen by summer 2026.

Northbound Binford Boulevard ramp to westbound I-465

Status: Closed

  • The Binford Boulevard ramp to westbound I-465 remains closed to drivers during construction. Several traffic pattern changes will need to happen prior to reopening the ramp.
  • This ramp is expected to reopen by the end of 2026.

I-465 bridges over 71st Street

Status: Complete and open to traffic

  •  The northbound I-465 bridge over 71st Street is complete and open to traffic.

Westbound I-465 near White River

Status: Complete and open to traffic

  • The new lanes on westbound I-465 from the main interchange to White River Road are complete.

While westbound I-465 is complete, traffic is currently reduced to fewer lanes than drivers will have at the end of construction because eastbound I-465 traffic has been shifted to use these lanes while the eastbound lanes are being rebuilt.

Southbound I-69 Ramp and Bridge to Southbound I-465

Status: Complete and open to traffic

  • Crews opened the new ramp and bridge from southbound I-69 to southbound I-465 in January 2026.

Noise Barriers

Status: Under Construction

The Clear Path 465 project team performed a traffic noise impact analysis during project development. Under  INDOT’s Noise Policy, seven noise barrier sections were identified as reasonable and feasible and will be built or relocated:

  • 800 feet along northbound I-69 past 82nd Street
  • 350 feet along northbound I-69 past I-465
  • 1,230 feet along the northbound I-465 ramp to I-69 northbound
  • 2,000 feet along westbound I-465 past Allisonville Road
  • 5,230 feet along eastbound I-465 between 82nd Street and I-69
  • 5,500 feet along southbound I-465 past 75th Street
  • 4,900 feet along northbound I-465 near 65th and 71st streets

A portion of the noise barrier along northbound I-465 past 75th Street has been built. Construction on the remaining noise barriers will continue through the end of the project, with road construction remaining the primary focus at this time.
