Temporary Ramp to Open Tonight for Southbound I-69 to Westbound I-465

Southbound I-465 will exit to the right; Westbound I-465 traffic should stay in the center.

INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 15, 2022) – A temporary ramp is expected to open overnight Monday for southbound I-69 traffic exiting onto westbound I-465, and it will mean an adjustment in traffic patterns for drivers. They need to slow down, avoid distractions and pay close attention to signage in the area.

The temporary ramp will change traffic patterns for southbound I-69. Traffic will exit to the right for southbound I-465. Traffic exiting onto westbound I-465 should stay in the center lanes.

Drivers are urged to observe the signs and pavement markings and stay alert for other vehicles as they adjust to the new traffic patterns. The temporary ramp will allow Clear Path crews to close and rebuild the existing ramp.

Ramp and lane closures

The 82nd Street on-ramp to southbound I-69 remains closed to prepare for the traffic shift. It’s expected to reopen on Wednesday morning, Aug. 17.

Drivers should also be aware that southbound I-69 traffic will be restricted to one lane with intermittent stoppages of up to 20 minutes between 9 p.m. tonight and 6 a.m. Tuesday.

New I-465 traffic pattern

A new I-465 traffic pattern is in effect between I-69/Binford Boulevard and Keystone Avenue. It helps keep traffic flowing and allows crews room to safely rebuild and add lanes to I-465.

Eastbound I-465 traffic shifts to the outside shoulder, and the right lane is exit only to northbound I-69. The left lane of westbound I-465 splits off and crosses the center median just past I-69/Binford Boulevard. It’s separated from the other I-465 lanes by concrete barriers with no exit to Allisonville Road and no large trucks allowed.

Police are enforcing the reduced speed limits of 45 mph and other traffic violations in the work zone.

Two long-term ramp closures are also in place. The Allisonville Road on-ramp to eastbound I-465 is closed through 2024. The northbound Binford Boulevard ramp to westbound I-465 is closed through 2025.

Handsfree use of mobile mapping apps with real-time traffic is encouraged for local drivers seeking alternate routes.
