Beginning on or after Monday, Aug. 17, the speed limit on eastbound I-465 between Keystone Avenue and 56th Street/Shadeland Avenue will increase from 45 to 55 mph in northeast Indianapolis.
The increase is possible because crews recently opened additional travel lanes that provide more capacity for drivers while maintaining a safe work zone. Eastbound I-465 traffic is in its final configuration.
The speed limit will remain 45 mph on westbound I-465 as crews move barrier wall and install pavement markings to prepare to open travel lanes and the ramp from 56th Street to northbound I-465. The speed limit on I-69 through the interchange will also remain 45 mph while crews continue building new ramps and roadway. It is important for drivers to slow down in construction zones and observe the posted speed limit.
Once construction on Clear Path 465 is complete, the speed limit will increase to 65 mph on I-465 and I-69, with speeds lowered as needed, for adjacent construction projects.
New Ramp Opening
Crews expect to open a new ramp within the I-69/I-465 interchange later this month. It will carry eastbound I-465 and northbound Binford Boulevard traffic directly to 82nd Street. Opening the ramp is one of the final steps needed to complete construction on the I-69/I-465 interchange.
Construction remains active throughout the corridor and drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns.
