INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 25, 2022) – Clear Path 465 bridgework will temporarily close the East 71st Street trail under I-465 to pedestrian and bicycle traffic. The closure is expected to begin Monday, Aug. 29 and end Friday, Sept. 2.
Cranes will lift large steel beams into place over the trail to widen the existing I-465 bridge.
East 71st Street remains closed to car and truck traffic and the detour follows Shadeland Avenue, 75th Street and Binford Boulevard.
Protection System will Keep Trail Open
A trail protection system will be installed after Labor Day. The protections being added will greatly reduce the time the multi-use trail is closed during Clear Path construction. Long-term closures were anticipated earlier in the project. The trail protections will minimize the closures needed for bridge construction. The protection system that will be installed will look similar to the scaffolding installed over city sidewalks during work on high-rise buildings.
Pedestrians and bicyclists should expect short delays and changing traffic patterns during installation, which is scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 6.
Southbound I-69 traffic pattern
Drivers on southbound I-69 should pay close attention on the signs and pavement markings approaching I-465 and Binford Boulevard. New traffic patterns are in place.
Southbound I-465 traffic now exits from the right lanes. Westbound I-465 traffic should stay in the center lanes for a temporary ramp.
