East 71st Street and the adjacent trail under I-465 are open. Crews reopened both over the weekend after completing final improvements ahead of schedule.
The closure began in June for paving, painting, cleanup activities, and overhead bridge work. Drivers, pedestrians and trail users can resume normal access through the area.
As construction on Clear Path 465 nears completion, drivers are seeing the improvements taking shape. Five miles of new roadway on eastbound I-465 recently opened from the White River to Fall Creek Road. This allowed crews to open the Allisonville Road ramp to eastbound I-465.
The ramp from 56th Street to northbound I-465 will open later this summer. Crews are moving barrier walls, adding median barriers and installing final pavement markings along northbound and westbound I-465 between Fall Creek Road and the White River to prepare for the reopening.
Fourteen new bridges and two rehabilitated bridges have been built, marking the completion of all major bridge construction on the project. Crews are now finishing approach work and installing pavement markings before traffic is shifted onto the new northbound I-69 bridge over 82nd Street.
Drivers are using new ramps and bridges within the I-69/I-465 interchange. The most recent milestones within the interchange include opening:
- Ramp from southbound I-69 to southbound Binford Boulevard (opened spring 2026)
- Eastbound/southbound I-465 bridges in the I-69/I-465 interchange (opened spring 2026)
Remaining work in 2026 will include noise barrier installation on I-465, intersection improvements at Binford Boulevard and 75th Street, and more ramps opening within the I-69/I-465 interchange. The project is three milestones away from completing the interchange.
