Clear Path Connection: Project Update Newsletter

71st Street and Multi-use Trail

Clear Path 465 crews temporarily reopened the multi-use trail along East 71st Street on Monday to bicycle and pedestrian traffic.

East 71st Street is expected remain closed to car and truck traffic through late this year for I-465 bridge construction. Click here to see a map of the detour that follows Shadeland Avenue, 75th Street and Binford Boulevard. Advance notice will be provided for any upcoming trail closures that are needed for bridge crews working overhead.

I-465

Expect ongoing law enforcement presence in the I-465 work zone between Fall Creek and North Keystone Avenue. Police are enforcing the reduced speed limit of 45 mph for the safety of both motorists and highway workers.

Signs have also been installed in the I-465 work zone directing large trucks to stay out of the left lane and use the right two lanes. Governor Eric J. Holcomb, the Indiana Department of Transportation Commissioner and the Indiana State Police Superintendent explain why slowing down is so important in this short video.

Crews are removing and replacing the center median from sections of the Clear Path 465 work zone. The work is being performed where I-465 lanes are shifted right with temporary barriers and solid white striping.

The center medians are being removed to build overhead sign foundations and temporary traffic crossovers. When traffic shifts this summer, the left lane of northbound/westbound I-465 will cross over the median and be an express lane for cars only. The temporary express lane will not have access to the I-69 and Allisonville Road exits.

I-465

Crews are removing metal fencing from state property and replacing it with temporary vinyl fencing. Fence removals are being completed ahead of work to remove noise barrier starting in mid-May. The noise barriers run along the west side of I-465 southbound from 75th Street to Skiles Test Nature Park and are expected to be replaced within one year.

Allisonville Road

The deck overlay for the Allisonville Road bridge over I-465 is expected later this summer. The work will require the bridge to be closed to all traffic for one work week, from Sunday evening through Friday morning. Watch for more information as we approach the closure date, which is expected no earlier than late June.

During the week-long closure, the I-465 exit ramps and the southbound Allisonville Road ramp to westbound I-465 will remain open to traffic turning right. Click here to view the closure map on our website.

Three long-term ramp closures are also expected to begin this summer:

  1. The Allisonville Road on-ramp to eastbound I-465.
  2. The northbound Binford Boulevard on-ramp (loop ramp) to westbound I-465
  3. The Shadeland Avenue/56th Street on-ramp to northbound I-465
